Chief Warrant Officer Four Barbara Lunon is a graduate of Parkview High School, Little Rock, Arkansas and a graduate of Philander Smith College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management.
Chief Lunon enlisted in the Arkansas Army National Guard on December 15, 1981. She completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina in 1982. She graduated from the Arkansas Military Academy-Officer Candidate School (OCS) Class 30 in 1987. In 2002, she entered the Warrant Office Candidate Training Program at Fort Rucker, Alabama and was appointed Warrant Officer One.
Chief Lunon served in a variety of positions in the 204th Medical Detachment; as Clerk Typist, Personnel Administrative Specialist and Chief Dental Facility NCO. She served as Senior Personnel Sergeant with HHSC 1st Battalion 114th Aviation, Military Personnel Technician with DCSPER and State Educational Office, Joint Force Headquarters, Human Resources Technician with Institute Support Unit, and Human Resources Technician with 77th Aviation Brigade where she is currently assigned. She is a Veteran of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom/Spartan Shield.
Chief Lunon awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal w/OLC, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and three Bronze Oak Left Clusters, National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Armed Forces Reserves Medal with gold hourglass and Mobilization Device, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Arkansas Distinguished Service Medal, Arkansas Exceptional Service Medal, Arkansas Federal Service Ribbon, Arkansas Emergency Service Ribbon, and Arkansas Recruiting Ribbon.
Chief Lunon volunteered numerous years with the Minuteman Youth Camp as a day counselor and night chaperone counselor. She also volunteered reading with the AR READ Program at Amboy Elementary School and Baseline Academy. She was actively involved in the Camp Robinson Women Group and the Camp Robinson “Voices of a Nation” Choir, under the leadership of Chaplain Dawson Williams and CW5 (Retired) Pamela Huff as President. Chief Lunon was an active participant in the Black History Heritage Program under the leadership of SFC (Retired) Rhonda McCollum. She served as a member of the March Unit representing The National Guard of the United States in the Inauguration Parade of the 42nd President of the United States.
After retirement Mrs. Lunon continue her role volunteer with a Literacy program, AR Kids Read. She currently serves as President of the Little Rock Alpha Gamma Chapter of Kappa Epsilon Psi Military Sorority, Inc. As of this year 2022 the sorority will begin Community Service on the fourth Saturday at the Arkansas Food Bank. Before the pandemic the chapter performed community service with Fishnet Ministry, preparing hot breakfast meals to serve homeless families in downtown Little Rock. The chapter also visited elderly veterans’ that reside at the Arkansas State Veterans Home in North Little Rock. Mrs. Lunon is an active member of the Little Rock Branch NAACP (6019-B). She has served as the Election Supervisor Chair and now currently serving as At Large Member on the Executive Board. Barbara Lunon volunteers with the Social Action Ministry (SAM), Justice Now Coalition, Ban the Box and Get out the Vote Campaign and My Vote is KEY to register citizens to vote and assist ex-felons that have completed their probation period to restore their voting rights. She is a volunteer with her church in several ministries, Leading Ladies of Faith, Intercessory Prayer, and Literacy and Word (SAM) Youth Ministry at The Second. Mrs. Lunon resides with her husband, Darryl and they have three sons.
